Adaptation measures to climate change have become an important environmental and economic necessity for the purpose of expanding all industrial activities without prejudice to the environmental impact associated with those activities. In this scope, the Green House Project works within the organized plan to implement part of the Prime Minister’s campaign to plant 5 million trees throughout Iraq, part of the directions of The plan implemented by the Green House Project through the guidance of the President of the Iraqi Private Banks Association, Mr. Wadih Al-Hanhal, includes planting trees for generating and producing electrical energy as a first stage in Baghdad and then expanding to all governorates in coordination with the National Initiative to Support Energy and Reduce Emissions. Within the same framework of work, a station was planted. Al-Jadriya diesel and the thermal generation station in Doura, which is one of the largest stations in area. The campaign was implemented using sustainable mechanisms, and a paper pledge was made to care for the planted seedlings, in addition to identifying the most suitable ones in terms of the speed and quality of afforestation, and studying whether a case of death was recorded in the planted seedlings.
In these campaigns, which were organized in the fall of 2023, positive cooperation was observed from the employees working in these institutions in terms of officially pledging to sustain and care for the trees that were planted, as types of acacia, albizia, dadonia, bougainvillea and other evergreen trees were planted, as will be done in the spring of 2024. According to an appropriate agricultural plan, the aforementioned sites will be re-sustainable for the purpose of compensating for agricultural losses and evaluating the campaign, and in light of Iraq’s continuation of the current energy pattern in terms of relying on fossil fuels to generate electrical power, work must be done to increase afforestation campaigns within those stations and the surrounding areas for the purpose of balancing some of the emissions. Accompanying this process of generating electrical energy, we in the Green House Project emphasize the importance of cooperation between the public and private sectors in creating a sound environment for work, especially since these stations require large human resources for the purpose of organizing their work, in addition to supporting climate action in terms of working to develop facilities and make them environmentally friendly. The Green House Project also supports current government trends in the field of improving services and putting environmental and development files at the forefront of goals and ambitions, as we can cooperate with all parties willing and supporting the development of climate action, whether from the public or private sector.
